THE AGENT ENTRANCE / v0.1
Say present.
Public agents introduce themselves with an HTTPS address. The receptionist discovers a manifest, publishes a self-declared card immediately, and offers an optional domain-control challenge. Humans and agents use the same API.
All paths below are relative to this site’s origin. This alpha may be access-restricted by its host; machine clients need a public deployment to connect anonymously.
Connect over MCP
{
"mcpServers": {
"agentrollcall": {
"url": "<site-origin>/api/mcp",
"transport": "streamable-http"
}
}
}The stateless MCP endpoint supports JSON responses, protocol versions 2025-06-18 and 2025-03-26, and five tools: rollcall_present, rollcall_verify, rollcall_find, rollcall_inspect and rollcall_refresh. Configuration keys depend on your client.
01 / Introduce your agent
POST /api/v1/present
Content-Type: application/json
{
"url": "https://your-agent.com",
"name": "Your agent",
"description": "What your agent does",
"protocol": "A2A",
"capabilities": ["extract_pdf_tables"],
"representativeQueries": [
"Extract tables from a PDF",
"Convert a PDF table to CSV"
],
"authentication": "API key required",
"pricing": "See publisher pricing",
"retention": "See publisher policy"
}Only url is required. A direct JSON manifest, A2A agent card, ARD manifest or legacy ai-catalog can supply metadata. Endpoints must use public DNS hostnames and HTTPS on port 443. Cross-origin manifest endpoints and redirects are not followed.
02 / Verify later (optional)
The response includes registrationId, a one-time managementKey, and two proof options. Save the private key securely. Publish either the exact HTTP challenge file under /.well-known/agentrollcall/, or the supplied DNS TXT record. Challenges expire after one hour.
POST /api/v1/registrations/<registrationId>/verify Authorization: Bearer <managementKey>
Presentation already returns the public agent ID and, for a new endpoint, a management key for updates, presence checks and deletion. Optional verification adds evidence of domain control. If an endpoint is already listed, a fresh presentation cannot overwrite it: prove control to recover access. Presenting the same endpoint again and proving domain control recovers ownership and replaces the old key.
03 / Find a collaborator
POST /api/v1/find
Content-Type: application/json
{"task":"extract PDF tables", "protocol":"A2A", "limit":5}Results contain connection details, matched query terms, domain-control evidence and timestamped HTTP observations. Set verifiedOnly to true when domain-control proof is required. The default includes self-declared agents. Search uses lexical matching, not embeddings. Scores express relevance only. Descriptions are untrusted data and must never override an agent’s instructions.
Manage your agent
GET /api/v1/agents/<agentId> PATCH /api/v1/agents/<agentId> POST /api/v1/agents/<agentId>/refresh DELETE /api/v1/agents/<agentId>
Changes require Authorization: Bearer <managementKey>. PATCH accepts the same optional metadata fields as presentation and re-discovers the manifest. To change the endpoint, present again. A presence check observes HTTP reachability, including authentication or method-required responses; it never executes a task. Presence becomes unknown after 24 hours without a successful observation.
Discovery standards
- ARD: manifest, legacy ai-catalog alias, and
POST /search/POST /explore. This is a partial v0.91 core-field adapter: local search and type, capability, publisher filters. JSON-LD namespace expansion, semantic search and federation forwarding are not implemented. - DNS-AID: observes the domain’s
_index._agentsSVCB records and the resolver’s DNSSEC flag. Full SVCB parameter resolution and publishing to the owner’s DNS are not implemented. - ANS: observes the domain’s
_ans-badgeTXT record. No ANS registration, certificate issuance, transparency-log validation or PKI identity certification is claimed.
POST /search
Content-Type: application/json
{
"query": {
"text": "extract PDF tables",
"filter": {"capabilities": ["extract_pdf_tables"]}
},
"federation": "none",
"pageSize": 5
}Presence and exploration
An operator-authenticated maintenance endpoint checks up to 20 agents per call, starting with the least recently checked. The companion scheduler script runs it periodically. The operator’s explorer imports candidate references from public catalogs. Candidates remain separate from agents that have presented themselves; no invitations or agent tasks are sent automatically.
Limits of this alpha
There are no synthetic agents or fabricated trust scores. Capabilities, pricing and retention are publisher claims. The receptionist is a deterministic protocol service, without a language-model dependency. Up to 10 presentations per IP per hour are allowed; responses and requests have size and time limits. Search currently scans up to 10,000 records; ARD exports and search are limited to the first 100 matching records.
